Abstract

The paper examines the standardization of web accessibility of information and communication technologies as a way to attract a larger number of users. It is noted that web accessibility is understood as an inclusive practice in which websites, online tools and web technologies are developed in such a way that they can be used by people with special needs, including and especially people with disabilities. It is emphasized that when organizing accessible web content, it is necessary to take into account individual characteristics that may hinder the user's access to the Internet. It is emphasized that the design of a web page is accessible if the user can freely operate the web content without external assistance, namely, perceive and understand the material, navigate within a page or group of linked pages, navigate by hyperlinks, and enter data into interactive forms. It is noted that the main standardizing body for web technologies is the International World Wide Web Consortium, which is based on the principle that the accessibility of the Internet for people with disabilities can be achieved if the following components are available and interact: Web content (content part and marking); user agents (browsers and other web applications); assistive technologies (supporting software and hardware); users with disabilities who know adaptive strategies for operating web pages; web developers who have the competence to develop accessible web pages; web developer software; tools for assessing the availability of web resources. All versions of WCAG are described in detail, the development of which continues continuously. It is emphasized that each new version is initiated by the W3C in order to improve accessibility recommendations and is built on the principle of backward compatibility with the parent version. The importance of web accessibility is further underscored by the need for a holistic approach that involves all stakeholders, including developers, users with disabilities, and technology providers. By standardizing web accessibility, the goal is to create an inclusive digital environment where all users, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities, can access and benefit from the wealth of information and services available on the internet. This not only increases the potential user base but also promotes equal opportunities and social inclusion in the digital age.
